I have just joined the team at La Novia and have fallen in love with numerous gowns and intend to share my ‘dresses of the month’ regularly. This month a design which attracted my attention is Liliana’s own design ‘Sofia’. Sofia is exquisite, with minimal detail the gown relies on the simplistic beauty which is created with a sweet heart neckline, a favourite amongst brides and a full skirt and train which add a bit of drama, giving an overall WOW factor. The material primarily used is duchess satin with a dotty tulle overlay. The design can be altered to incorporate any desired fabric but the dotty tulle adds a playful twist.
Another quirky aspect to the design is the bolero. The bolero creates a completely different look for a bride and is a fabulous way to take a gown from day to evening. This allows brides to have two special looks without the expense of purchasing two dresses. When the bolero is placed over the gown a vintage 1960s vibe is felt. The use of a satin collar helps create a new neckline and a satin trim on the hemline finishes it off beautifully. The use of dotty tulle once more creates charm and a unique spin on the traditional shape. The bolero is completed with pearl button fastenings on the back. This couture design really is something special and I urge any bride to pop in to have a look at this particular design as well as the other designer bridal wear on offer.
Another, more unusual design comes from designer Ian Stuart. Ian Stuart’s latest collection takes inspiration from glamorous couture in the late 1940s to early 50s. His design ‘Coco Rico’ stocked by La Novia does not disappoint on the glamour front. With a striking silhouette, this dress is perfect for any bride wishing to make a statement. The creative nature of the design is unique and clever. The lower part of the dress is detachable giving the bride the freedom to change her look.
As I discussed I’m fascinated with gowns which can transform and give brides options on how they wish to wear them, giving them their own unique look. Coco Rico is mainly ivory with a touch of colour from the flower detail; muted colours of pink and blue complement each other very well. The main material for this gown is taffeta this adds to the dreamy, fairytale feel and Swarovski crystals and beads on the neckline are perfectly placed. They add to the dress as a feature but do not overpower, Stuart has crafted a seamless balance. This shop really does deliver top quality bridal wear in Scotland and I look forward to updating you with next month’s special finds.
