La Novia Real Bride – Helen

We are absolutely thrilled to have received such kind words from our December bride Helen, the last 6 months have flown in! Her photographer Sacha Miller done a wonderful job!

“Getting a bespoke dress made at La Novia was one of the best decisions I made for my December wedding (sorry it has taken so long to write this, where does the time go?!), even though I had moved to Nottingham and was getting married in Wales it was absolutely worth the hassle of trips back to Edinburgh for fittings.

I spent a long time looking for the perfect dress and visited A LOT of shops but nothing was quite right, Liliana was able to combine all the features I wanted with the most beautiful fabric, a lace unlike anything I had seen elsewhere. The service was fantastic, all of the staff are lovely and really know their stuff, Liliana may not be the simpering pander to the bride type you get in a lot of shops but I found that refreshing, she is honest and genuinely cares about making you look, and feel, amazing and not about selling you the most expensive dress she can and moving on to the next person. I had so many compliments on my dress and people still mention it six months after the wedding, I just wish I had a reason to wear it again!

If you are considering making an appointment at La Novia I would wholeheartedly recommend that you do and, if you are starting to worry that the wedding dress you want simply doesn’t exist and contemplating a compromise, go and see Liliana first!”

So you’ve found the perfect wedding dress – now it’s time to match up the perfect bridal accessories. We have a great range of sample veils and birdcages in our Edinburgh bridal boutique. During our bride’s first styling appointment we start playing around with different looks. As always, it’s best to stay open-minded.

Birdcages are fantastic for those seeking an informal, less traditional look. Our playful designs use millenary veiling to create stunning, unique pieces. As each birdcage is made by hand, we can tailor them to suit your wedding theme and dress. The beauty of birdcages is that they are truly individual with a vintage twist.

Bridal veils can bring a little excitement to your ceremony – the moment the veil is pulled back to reveal the bride can be quite special. Veils can also be used to cover a bride’s shoulders without having to worry about wearing a bolero or shrug – ideal for religious ceremonies. With gorgeous back detailing being a massive trend this year, veils can draw attention to this area to create a dramatic entrance.

Our in-store range of bridal veils are regularly updated with new designs. As each veil is handcrafted we are able to customise them to our bride’s requirements. We have a choice of tulle types and colours. A few of our samples feature delicate Swarovski crystal which catch the light beautifully. Brides can also choose from a range of lace and satin trims. Our simple veils can have a raw edge or a soft curled finish. We can make our veils in any desired length. Our standard lengths are: 35” (shoulder length) 72” (fingertip length) 108” (church/chapel length) 126” (cathedral length).

At La Novia we believe before selecting a birdcage style or choosing your veil length, you should consider your wedding dress and hairstyle. We recommend having a hair trial once you have made your final decision, this will ensure your hairstylist perfects everything for your special day.

Bridal Trends 2016

Bank holiday Mondays make for a very quick week, happy Thursday folks! We’ve had a lovely few days styling new clients and catching up with La Novia brides at their fittings. Before we say hello to another weekend, I’d like to step back to last weekend…

…Liliana and I had the pleasure of attending one of the biggest bridal exhibitions in our calendar. The White Gallery in London did not disappoint this year. We expect our new collections to arrive early October BUT for our fashion-forward brides who can’t wait that long, I thought I’d share some inside gossip on future trends we spotted.

As a lace lover, I was pleased to see lace has been favoured by many designers in their 2016 collections. Delicate lace featured on bodices, cap sleeves and back details. We noticed a move away from full lace bridal gowns. Designers were using lace to create added interest, beautiful cuff details and intricately beaded lace are definitely worth looking out for!

Separates Trend

Two pieces have been a massive hit in the fashion industry this spring/summer. Co-ordinates have been taken to a whole new chic level by wedding designers. Modern separates of full pleated skirts (with pockets) and boxy crop tops made in rich brocade fabrics were stunning. This is the trend we’re most excited about!

We found designers have chosen to create gowns of simplistic elegance in their 2016 collections. Soft chiffon made for stunning floating skirts which move with ease. We got a really relaxed vibe from these wedding dresses which are perfect for carefree brides.

Pronovias Merilda – Wedding Dress of the week

It’s always fantastic to be able to share new wedding dresses with you and today, we’re excited to share a Pronovias beauty!

For our brides searching for a dress which is relaxed, accentuates their natural curves and isn’t strapless – this may be ‘The One’. Recently we have found brides are seeking wedding dresses which have structure but remain easy to wear and aren’t restrictive. Marilda really does have it all, with a structured bodice and soft fitted skirt, it is very well designed.

Pronovias Marilda bridal gown has a striking mermaid silhouette, hugging in all the right places. The wedding dress has been created in delicate Chantilly lace with intricate beaded appliques which glimmer when the light catches them. The strap detail follows the sweetheart neckline, down to the low v-back feature. A dramatic train highlights the back detail beautifully.

The gown is now available to try in our Queen Street bridal boutique Edinburgh. If you would like to make an appointment, do not hesitate to give us a call on 0131 558 9613.

Sally-Anne’s wonderful winter wedding

Before we skip into spring completely, we’d like to step back and share one of our favourite winter weddings from last year. Our real bride Sally-Anne and Iain’s wedding is exactly what a winter wedding should be. It was absolutely stunning from Sally-Anne playful gown to Iain’s bespoke suit – we loved it all! The day had a wonderfully romantic atmosphere, with spectacular Christmas decor. Their wedding took place at The Prestonfield House Hotel on the 27th of December 2014. We hope you enjoy having a look through their beautiful photos (we adore the drama of their black and white shots!)

We would like to say BIG thank you to Sally-Anne. We thoroughly enjoyed helping you find your perfect dress. From your first appointment to your final fitting we had a ball! We love when clients become friends. It was fantastic to work so closely with you. We loved sharing stories and mulled wine at our Christmas party – such great fun. We wish you all the best in your married life as Mrs Washer!
“The dress was the first one I tried on, and it was perfect, Lilliana told me it was the perfect dress for me, my shape, height and venue – and she was right! Two days and five bridal appointments later I was back at La Novia, nothing else came close. Lilliana gave me honest and brilliant advice all along about how to get the look I wanted with such a beautiful dress.”

“When Iain saw me all dressed up, he was so amazed. He couldn’t stop looking at me! He said the dress looked so different and perfect for me, like nothing he had expected and the most beautiful dress he had ever seen. All my female guests commented that the dress was amazing, with such subtle and pretty details.”

“I felt like a princess in my dress, I loved the colour, so unusual and subtle, the length was perfect for my intimate wedding and I didn’t need to worry about lifting it up when we walked around the gardens for our photos. It was so comfortable, and easy to be in. Everything fitted perfectly and the structure of the dress meant I didn’t need to worry about anything, it just stayed where it was meant to.”

“I adored my bird cage head piece. I needed a bit of persuading by Lilliana to go for the bird cage rather than a traditional tiara, but I am so pleased I did. Lilliana really knows what works best with a dress. I loved it, it was so fun and looks amazing on the pictures. It was so easy to wear and didn’t move all day and night.”

“Everyone at La Novia was so helpful and kind. My fittings were lots of fun and everyone gave me brilliant honest advice about how to match my shoes, hair, jewellery etc. The stole was recommended by Lilliana on my last fitting and I am so pleased she did. It meant I could walk around outside in December and get some lovely pictures without feeling cold. It also felt lovely to be able take it off and for my guests to see the rest of my dress.”

“My florist Mr Maxwell used a piece of fabric from my dress to match my antique rose bouquet to the colour of my dress. The bouquet matched brilliantly and was just the right size for me. The antique roses had a slight pinkness to them, like the dress and were so delicate. Mr Maxwell did such a wonderful job with the flowers. He is incredible and really understood the look I wanted to create on the table.”

“I had an amazing wedding day. Having such a small and intimate wedding in December is a bit unusual, and I wasn’t sure how some bits would work, but it was the most magical day, and I felt amazing in my dress.”

Mariana – wedding dress of the week

Mariana is a stunningly elegant wedding dress designed by our own Lilana Dabic as part of her couture collection. This classically uncomplicated style can be personalised and enhanced by adding a bolero or belt, both of which there are a wide selection of here at La Novia. This also gives you as a bride the option to change your look throughout your wedding day as boleros and accessories can be worn or taken off whenever you wish. As many looks as you would like without the expense of additional dresses!

The fitted bodice features a sweetheart neckline which flatters most body shapes and is a regular favourite amongst brides. A full skirt with a gentle train flows from the waistband. The dress is fastened with a zip, which makes dressing on the day easier, but is decorated with buttons down the back of the dress following the line of the zip. This added detail adds elegance and sophistication to the dress while also functionally helping to hide the appearance of the zip. Mariana is made of satin with a soft satin overlay that creates a gentle floaty feel and gives the dress the movement that really adds WOW factor when you are walking down the aisle on your big day!

It truly is a stunning design that guarantees all brides sophistication and elegance. This classic bridal dress design is beautifully special and may just be the dress you have been searching for! I would encourage all brides to come along to our Edinburgh Boutique to see this stunning dress and all our other incredible designs on offer.

And if you are looking for a bargain, the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of February Liliana will be hosting a designer weekend offering up to a huge 15% off her beautiful designs, including the Mariana! If you would like to book an appointment for this special event please get in touch with us either through our website or by calling 0131 558 9613.
