Bridal fashion week for spring/summer 2014, held in New York, was -as ever- a grand exhibition of the new must have wedding wear. It seems apparent as the annual event goes back under the radar once more that we have been left with more & more wedding dress designs fit for bygone years. Vanished have the strapless modern must-haves! In their place are long sleeved dresses, High necks & decorative backs. Huge importance has been placed on the influential 50’s. Whomever the designer, whatever the attire, vintage visions are the in thing. So here are some of our favourite ideas to integrate when picking your dress…
The Conservative Cut. High necklines were everywhere on the catwalk mainly in translucent and lace fabrics thus having an elegant, delicate effect on such a dainty part of the body. Emulating a 1950’s traditional style conservative necklines, how ever you wear them, are a hot trend this year..
Project Bling. This trend is for those who are after a slightly more modern twist. The new crazes of bejewelled gowns were seen sashaying down the catwalks. With jewels to dazzle round the neckline or waistline a bit of bling is all the rage – the perfect look for those after a gown with an added wow factor. At La Novia we not only have some beautiful sparkling gowns and veils but we also have a number of statement belts and brooches to add some must have glamour to your big day.
Back to Basics. Instead of putting all the detail on the front of your dress why not copy the catwalks and put the emphasis on your back. Besides, this is the part of you seen by the congregation during the ceremony so why not! Low scoops, floral lace or beaded straps are a fantastic way to make the back of your wedding dress the main focal point. We have a range of couture gowns with low backs and stunning back detail as well as a Manuel Mota lace gown which is a must see for any bride looking to get ‘back’ to basics.
Keeping it Covered. In keeping with the high necks we have also seen a lot of dresses with shoulders and arms covered up. The popular choice of material was, again, delicate laces and translucent fabrics which are the perfect choice for the cut. Liliana Dabic Couture designs and makes gowns with matching boleros or you can add long or cap sleeves to Liliana’s strapless creations. Pop by the store and get some advice on our sleeved dresses and our extensive range of boleros.
Last but not Least. The short and sweet wedding dress was a firm favourite on the catwalk this year. 50’s style prom dress designs are becoming increasingly popular as they are far more versatile for a long day and after dinner dancing. These catwalk calf skimmers were fun, flirty and are definitely worth considering…
