La Novia Bride: Amy

This week we received a lovely message from our La Novia bride Amy who got married back in July at Carlowrie CastlWe created a custom-made style, based on our Katharine dress, and we are glad to hear that Amy loved it just as much as we loved making it (we think this is our favourite dress this year!):

“I just wanted to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU! You are all so talented and amazing and I cannot thank you enough! Thank you for creating a perfect dress for me, and for all the advice and expertise. Also for accommodating the last minute veil issue!! Thank you!! My dress was truly unique and I had so many lovely comments on it. I really hope its the new ‘Amy’ Dress!”

It was a pleasure to work on this new design and Amy looked absolutely perfect in her bespoke gown, which channeled a classic and Royal elegance. Created by our designer Liliana Dabic, the dress is cut from luxury Duchess satin in ivory, and has an off-shoulder neckline which is so flattering, exposing the collarbones and elongating the neck; the folded detail at the neck and back looked sooo gorgeous on Amy and gives a sophisticated vintage look along with the fabric-covered buttons, which go all the way down to the train.

Amy had an extra special trick up her sleeve with this dress, in that we made them detachable! Once she found the Katharine dress which is originally sleeveless, Amy suggested that she may have preferred to have a long sleeve. For a Summer wedding, a sleeve can feel a little restrictive to wear all day and into the evening, especially in a heavier fabric. We decided to work our magic and give Amy the best of both worlds so created chic long sleeves which attach with discreet popper fastenings into the armholes; and with the folded detail around the arms you could never tell.

This dress makes a statement and the voluminous skirt creates a dramatic, regal silhouette which Amy carried effortlessly. She finished off her look with a single-layer cathedral length veil which was oh so traditional. This complimented the theme of her wedding ceremony and classic feel of the day perfectly, as it was held at the historic Carlowrie Castle. The venue boasts gorgeous grounds, where Anna Urban captured some amazing images of the happy couple.

We are delighted to see so many smiles in these photos and Amy looking like a dream in her dress. Huge congratulations from the La Novia team!

La Novia Bride: Corrine

Corrine wore our strapless luxurious satin Julia dress for her wedding day, opting for a bridal look with a timeless A-line silhouette. She looked fabulous and said: “thank you so much for my amazing dress. It was just perfect for our day and the girls at the shop made me feel so relaxed when I came to try things on. I even ended up with something completely unexpected. I felt wonderful on the day and got so many compliments on my dress”.

Corrine and Stuart chose the stunning 19th century Cambo Estate in East Neuk, Fife as the venue for their wedding day. The woodland, gardens and beach that surround the estate were a real selling point as they wanted to achieve an organic feel when designing their day; nature really played a part in it, and we can see this from all the beautiful photos captured by Caro Weiss Photography in the surrounding landscape. Along with the marquee festival theme, personal touches were spread throughout; it was a team effort the day before the wedding to make their gorgeously chic floral hoops which hung in marquee, and greenery and foraged flowers were used to decorate the tables.

This natural theme went so well with Corrine’s bridal look which was soft and classic, yet contemporary with the addition of her dark red lip colour, and the textured lace Nikki bolero by Oscar Lili which added some sparkle from the embroidered beads and sequins. We loved the dusty pink and green tones of Corrine’s colour palette, and going for the less traditional approach by having her bridesmaids in different coloured skirts was a lovely touch. The floristry brought all of the beautiful colours and textures together and was done by Cath Reilly.

Corrine told us that her “day was perfect. So much planning goes into a wedding and it was amazing to see it all come together on the day. We wanted our wedding to be full of friends, family, braw food, some right good beer – artfully brewed by the best man – and amazing music. A right good party.”

The La Novia team are so happy for Stuart and Corrine, and loved to see how amazing their day turned out. Congratulations!

La Novia Bride – Antonia

We love a sunny destination wedding, and after seeing these amazing photos from La Novia bride Antonia’s wedding day, we were not disappointed. If you want a romantic getaway wedding then where better than a historic hilltop village surrounded by gorgeous countryside and vineyards…

Choosing to get married in Antonia’s family hometown of Monforte, in the beautiful Lazio region of Italy, Antonia and her husband James took a personal and laid-back approach to their wedding planning; opting to design and decorate most of their day themselves with simple lighting, and handmade decorations for a rustic and quintessentially Italian feel. With the help of Antonia’s parents they even sourced wood from the surrounding mountains to create their own take on the wedding arch. As you can see from these photos fuss-free was the way to go and their day looked gorgeous!

Antonia’s bridal look was just the right balance of relaxed and elegant, which worked perfectly for the occasion being a warm summer wedding. The ceremony took place in the local church which requires an element of tradition when it comes to a bridal gown, therefore the delicate French Fiona lace bolero was an ideal addition with a refined boat neckline and long sleeves. Having a bolero layered over Antonia’s customized wedding gown, made by our very own Liliana Dabic, was the perfect way to bring versatility to the look. After the ceremony and their meal, the couple hired a square in the neighbouring village where all the locals could get involved and enjoy the celebrations along with the guests. Antonia’s wedding dress was a simple and sleek strapless style which accentuated her figure with a plain waistband. The intricate beaded lace overlay on the skirt added some sparkle and a touch of glamour perfect for the evening party time in the piazza, and it also paired beautifully with her cute gold heels which gave her wedding style a stylish twist.

La Novia Favourite Dress – Claudia by Oscar Lili

Over the Summer months we have seen our La Novia brides loving the Boho trend, opting for fragile florals and decorative lace details on their wedding dresses. Boho bridal dresses are perfect if you want more embellishment whilst keeping it looking delicate and casual; whereas having a simpler dress can be great if you want to be a bit more quirky with your bridal accessories and style up your look with fresh blooms, layered jewellery or maybe even a customized denim jacket.

A key Autumn/Winter bridal trend for next year is in keeping with the Boho vibes of Summer but updating it into a more polished and grown-up look.

If simplicity is the name of the game when it comes to your wedding dress inspiration, and you want a carefree style which is still channeling a little 1970’s vintage glam then our dress of the moment may be the one for you.

Our favourite dress is Claudia, a dreamy and elegant gown designed by Oscar Lili. A fuss-free, classic sheath silhouette cut from immaculate white crepe fabric which has a beautiful drape and pools into a modest train. The low V-back of the dress with button-down detail is so flattering and gives the design just a little bit of a flirty feel.

The high boat neckline and gorgeous chiffon bell sleeves with lace cuffs are all about creating the vintage Boho bride look. Perfect for an understated barn venue or festival themed wedding, this design is lightweight and ethereal – you will be floating down the aisle. The effortless simplicity speaks for itself with this dress and it doesn’t need to be over-styled; some delicate jewellery and wild flowers would be enough. In saying that, if you want to go all out with the accessories then this gown is versatile enough for experimentation. It is your big day after-all!

The Claudia sample is available to try in our Queen Street boutique; for inquiries and appointments send us an email at info@lanovia.co.uk.

Pre-wedding prep: the skincare regime

Whether you are overwhelmed from days of wedding dress shopping, or perhaps anticipating your dress-to-be’s arrival at our boutique, we thought we’d divert your attention for just a second to get you thinking about your pre-wedding prep. Specifically, the all important skincare regime!

You may be blessed with a naturally flawless complexion, but Autumn is here and we feel like everyone might feel like a little skin pick-me-up. Here at La Novia, we are huge fans of Arbonne skincare. If you haven’t heard of Arbonne, it is a premium health and beauty brand which uses all pure, botanically based ingredients; it’s vegan, cruelty-free and clinically tested. Plus it will have you glowing – what more could you ask for?

We’ve picked a few of our favourite products to kick start you on your way to looking absolutely radiant and photo-ready, so you’ll have that boost of confidence on your big day.

So.. starting with a good cleanser is the most important step when it comes to caring for your skin. Cleaning the skin thoroughly before adding anything else will ensure that your products will be absorbed into the skin and work more effectively. You will be able to use your products sparingly so they will last you. Our favourite here at La Novia is the RE9 Advanced Brightening Cleansing Foam, it’s foamy texture gets rid of any make-up and impurities and leaves your skin feeling tightened and luminous. Great start!

If you feel like you need a deeper cleanse then a great product to add in once daily or just a few times a week is the RE9 Advanced Prep-work Cleansing Polish. It is a lovely refreshing exfoliator which contains pea protein, antioxidant vitamin E and fine ground apricot seeds to get rid of dull, dead skin cells and soften the skin tone. It’s gentle to the skin and will give you an instantly refreshed complexion.

Next, the RE9 Advanced Regenerating Toner is a must-have! It contains natural witch hazel and brown algae extract and comes in a handy spray bottle to deliver a dreamy mist over the skin which will have you feeling revitalized. A toner is great as it will shrink the pores and the appearance of fine lines. This product can be used throughout the day when you’re on the go; even over your make-up for a boost of moisture and brightness. We think this is an essential for your wedding day too, great for a refreshing spritz when you’re working up a heat from dancing the night away.

For moisture and radiance by day we suggest RE9 Advanced Restorative Cream SPF 15. With hyularonic acid, vitamin C and added Collagen this is a skin saviour which replenishes moisture and firms and plumps the skin for a youthful glow. The added SPF protects from sun damage and is essential for a sunny wedding day where you will be outdoors for longer periods, or for cushioning the skin on colder, windy days.

After a long day of wedding planning you deserve some beauty sleep and the RE9 Advanced Prep-work Overnight Face Jelly is essentially that in a bottle. It’s a gorgeous light gel texture which gives instant hydration, and the super-food ingredients work into dry, tired skin overnight resulting in you waking up looking fresh and your face feeling “baby soft”. That’s one reason for a good nights sleep!

For fabulous skin, creating a consistent routine is key and who doesn’t want to treat themselves to some luxurious self-care? All Arbonne products are available to order at the La Novia boutique, get in touch and ask our stylists for more information on orders and samples.

La Novia Bride – Claire

This week we were so happy to hear from our lovely La Novia bride Claire, who got in touch to say “A huge thank you to Liliana and the other ladies who helped me pick my perfect dress for my wedding, and helped to put me at ease whilst making it such an enjoyable experience. I absolutely love my dress and couldn't have picked a more beautiful dress anywhere else.”

We always love to know that our brides feel amazing in their perfect dress, and to see how all of the finishing touches come together on their wedding day. Claire shared some beautiful photos taken by Martin McClellan photography which really capture how much she enjoyed her special day, and how stunning she looked in the process!

The ceremony at Gleddoch House was classic and so chic, and we are swooning over the exquisite floristry by Miss Bloom. Claire chose a gorgeous colour palette of dusty, pale pinks and soft whites which had a lovely simplicity and completely complimented the Groom’s traditional, muted blue tweeds and tartans.

In the Tiffany bridal gown by Oscar Lili, we are pleased to see that our bride did us proud and stole the show. The cut is so flattering with a low scoop neck and back, and a glamorous fishtail shape which fits Claire to perfection giving her the ultimate hourglass silhouette. The unique embroidered lace of the Tiffany gown is covered in shimmering sequins which catch your eye and add just the right amount of glitz whilst keeping it elegant. We love Claire’s personal touches; she chose a long single layer tulle veil, which is so simple and really finishes off the dress without distracting, as well as understated accessories to add a little something extra. The pearl and diamanté hairband is beautiful to bring the sparkle out from the dress and keeps Claire’s look so modern.

Thank you to Claire for looking fabulous and for the kind words, we are thrilled to have created your dream dress and to always help each of our brides have the best day possible.

A love letter to weight worried brides

It’s time for a bit of bridal self- love… recently I have noticed a significant amount of brides putting themselves down about ‘not being wedding dress ready’/ struggling to find anything that suits their body shape/ weight gain/ weight loss/ bridal guests putting them down during appointments… this needs to stop! Wedding dress shopping should be a once in a lifetime experience which should not be ruined or disrupted by any of the above!

At La Novia, we are passionate about helping you find something that will suit YOU perfectly, fit your wedding theme and make you feel truly special… we know that these normal insecurities exist but trust us (the bridal experts – wink, wink) that 9/10 times we will be able to find something perfect, leaving you smiling and wanting to walk out the shop with your dress on. Here is one of our favourite dresses which we find suit almost all body shapes, the perfect balance of bridal and chic.

Oscar by Liliana Dabic is on one of our custom-made golden oldies. The V shape front and V back is very flattering for both girls with bigger or smaller bust size- this top allows you to embrace your bust regardless of size! The lace detail on the top is made with just the right amount of embroidery, providing a balance between tradition without being over the top. Being a made to measure gown gives you the freedom to add more detail, sparkle or heavier lace if you wish, it also means you will get the exact support you need.

The simple but staple detail of this dress is the wide satin belt stitched around the waistline, this is lined with a boning acting as a built-in corset. This magic touch cinches in your waist and keeps your posture upright. The skirt of the gown is similar to our magnificent Marianna dress, A-line shape made in satin silk material. The fullness of the skirt creates a perfect proportion to the fitted top, the sweep train is also a very manageable size and can be pinned up in the evening. The dress can be finished off with either a corset tie up back or a zip and satin buttons.

Whatever bridal stage you are at La Novia is here to help you find the one, in order to book your bridal appointment phone us at 0131 558 9613.

Bridal dress of the week: Enzoani BT19-26.

Last bridal blog post was dedicated to the world of boho- perfect for the more relaxed and quirky bride. This week, the focus turns to PRINCESS, big skirts, volume, tulle, flowers, sparkle, layers, over the top… the list goes on. The wedding dress that falls into all the above categories is the Enzoani BT19-26 from the Beautiful Bridal collection.

It was during a fitting last week that I remembered just how simply beautiful and flattering this dress looked on. The other wonderful thing about this gown is that it works for pretty much all seasons (perhaps apart from weddings abroad on a beach with 30-degree heat all day). Although it certainly has a full skirt, the top is light and not made of heavy material- ideal for summer brides who want to embrace an A-line style but are afraid they will get too hot.

Plunge necklines are a massive YES, striking and will ensure all eyes on you. The bodice of this gown is made with a perfect dose of floral lace and detailed glitter sequence without being too girly or overbearing, embroidered onto a sheer material which will mean that your skin will be showing through. Before panic arises over the potential bra situation, there will be cups stitched in that are fitted to you- keeping you secure and in place in all day. The midsection of the dress acts as a belt
itself, this horizontal illusion band will bring in your waist without the need of any extra accessories, how ideal! This fabulous top doesn’t stop here though, the back is just as dazzling, V-shaped to match the front, revealing your back as you walk down the aisle.

The size of this skirt is phenomenal, the tulle material is what makes and keeps the skirt structured and standing throughout the day. The fullness of the skirts provides a big contrast to the top, however as the lace floral pattern cascades down the dress onto the skirt, it ties the whole look together, creating a better flow between the top and skirt. Although it’s hard to see in the photo, there is a faint seam line round the bottom of the skirt which adds an extra detail not to be
overlooked, before flowing out into the train. The gown is fasted with small crystals buttons and an invisible zipper making it quick and easy to slide on when the big day comes!

Introducing… Beloved by Casablanca

Over the past few days, the sun has been shining getting La Novia really excited for all the summer weddings that are just around the corner. What’s more, just to add to this buzz, we are launching another new bridal designer- something fresh, summery and quite unlike any of our other current dress collections… we are bringing to Edinburgh- Beloved Bridal by Casablanca.

Beloved motto goes as follows- ‘Distinctive design, high-quality materials’. The beloved bride is in the look for something more experimental, free-spirited and fashion forward. We think the wedding dresses we have chosen to stock from the Beloved range fall into these three categories.

One of our favourites is Beloved 284, this dress is utterly unique. Boho brides this will be right up your street. The pattern is so distinctive and different from usual bridal wear, formed by original shapes that intertwine elegantly all the way down the gown making it stand out from the crowd. The top which has a plunging neckline shape is very feminine, as well as bringing a daring feel to the dress. The three-quarter sleeves are the perfect length, giving you coverage without restricting movement. The lace edging may be a small extra detail but it makes a big difference, the delicate appliques make a gown look beautiful, expensive and classy.

Beloved 228, there are so many quirky features about this dress making it hard to know where to start. The material is a combination of floral lace mixed with a dotted Aztec pattern, the fabric is sheer allowing your skin to show through, ideal for a beach venue or spring/ summer season wedding. The dress is formed in vertical lines which will elongate your body, making you look taller, This is broken by a belt in the middle which will really accentuate your waist as well as dividing up the top and bottom half of the dress. The style is fishtail but due to the light material, this will not feel rigid or uncomfortably tight around your body. This gown is boho, youthful and fun.

If this boho vibe is a bit of you, please give us a call on 0131 558 9613 or email us at info@lanovia.co.uk to book your one-to-one appointment.
