As any bride will tell you it’s not all about the dress. The perfect dress is paramount but when it comes to clothes, shoes and accessories on your wedding day it’s all important and it all has to be perfect. From a shimmering tiara to pretty satin shoes, a fur wrap or bespoke bolero, brides know every little counts.

Shrugs and boleros are becoming increasingly popular especially those cut in lace. The ‘Victoriana’ look is a hot trend both on the high fashion and bridal catwalks this season so if you fancy going conservative on your wedding day whilst staying right on trend – think about a bolero.

It’s always all about the bling when it comes to bridal fashion and before we even get our engagement ring on our finger we are thinking about tiaras and crystal shoes. At La Novia we make our own couture dresses and bespoke bolero’s and veils in house so if you want more Swarovski crystals on your dress let us know and we can keep on blinging.

Liliana Dabic Birdcages
At La Novia we love birdcages. Birdcage style headdresses used to be reserved for the more avant-garde brides but now that veils are not deemed as ‘essential’ more and more brides are opting for something a little different. Ask us about our couture birdcages at your next appointment.

Fur Wraps

Being based in Scotland we know a thing or two about fur wraps. Even for our brides getting married down south, fur wraps are still essential in winter. The summer is about the time of year when our winter brides are looking for their perfect dress so if you are a winter bride ask us about our gorgeous fur wraps. We sell wraps in various colours from crisp white and creamy ivory to black and red!

Garters are still a popular tradition and a much sort after accessory on your wedding day. If you don’t want the standard lace garter ask us to make one for you. Our garters can be made to perfectly match your dress and theme and we will even hand stitch on your keepsakes and lucky charms too if you want.

In Scotland, tartan sashes and clan tartans are obviously incredibly popular. If you want a special sash made we are more than happy to help and can make sashes for you and your bridesmaids too.

Clutch Bags

Not only is it a great excuse to buy another bag, but a wedding day handbag can be a necessity for carrying makeup, tissues and a trusty compact mirror. If you are thinking of buying a gorgeous bag for your big day make sure you think about what needs to go in it before buying it. We wouldn’t want you to buy a gorgeous micro clutch to find out your bronzer doesn’t fit in!

A comfortable pair of stunning shoes can be hard to find but at La Novia we stock the Menbur bridal range which not only look gorgeous but are super comfy too. Pop by the store to try on a pair and see for yourselves.

Spring wedding ideas

The weather may not be heating up but the evenings are certainly getting lighter and that got us thinking about Spring fashion’s and how we can incorporate that into the most special day of our lives – the wedding day!

Fabulous Florals
Sumptuous floral fabrics seem to be everywhere at the moment and one of our favourite examples of flower power on your wedding day is the amazing Ian Stuart SouthPacific dress in floral with gold gazar. If you love florals but fancy walking down the isle in the traditional white why not add a hint of flowers somewhere else? From cake stands to chair covers to the subtle hints of Freesia in your perfume, project a hint of fabulous floral into your spring wedding day.

Pencil power
The pencil Skirt was hot property on the catwalk of the Spring/Summer 13 shows and if you are a devoted fashionata you may want the smart tight pencil to feature somewhere (or on someone) for your big day. You may not want to sashay down the isle in a pencil skirt yourself but this doesn’t stop your maid of honour wearing a stunning candy coloured shift dress with pencil skirt or why not go all old school and change into a pencil skirt for your ‘going away’ outfit.

Fluro Fancy
Fluorescent may not be the first colour theme that springs to mind when you are planning your wedding day but it is definitely quirky! Fluro is bang on trend this coming season so why not splash out on a hint of fluro with some funky napkins or even fluorescent name cards.

Wonderful White
Funnily enough white is the hottest colour for summer this year so if you are wearing the traditional colour for a blushing bride you will be on trend down the aisle. Why not keep your marquee tranquil and fill it with white bouquets and crisp white linens …. Just keep the red wine away!

60s sensations
The 60s is another big fashion trend sweeping spring/summer 2013. Short mini skirts and prom style dresses are everywhere and cute Twiggy style headbands are a wonderfully subtle salute to the 60s. From the signature eye make up to some monochrome madness why not get all retro at your wedding. Yeah Baby!
